The Johnson County Historical Society Museum is home to the Society’s more than 10,000 historic artifacts. The exhibits portray the diverse and vibrant heritage of the county, from the Meskwaki tribe and early settlers to contemporary times. The Community Room is available for event rentals.

This annual event will feature delicious food and lively music. This year celebrates anniversaries of Iowa City staples: the Preucil School of Music and the University of Iowa's Division of Performing Arts. German composer Ludwig van Beethoven's 200th birthday is also being celebrated with our East Frisian tea and the classical selection of music being performed at the musicale.   To register for this event, please email programs@johnsoncountyhistory.org or call our office at (319) 351-5738.

Atlases, Maps, and More: The Melchoir Huebinger Lecture

This lecture, presented by Mike Flaherty, will provide a wealth of information about Melchoir Huebinger and his creation of the first Iowa road atlas. Melchoir Huebinger worked as a cartographer in the later part of the 1800s and the early 1900s. His work helped convince the nation that Iowa had "stepped out of the mud" and had new, modern paved roads.
