Please join Take A Kid Outdoors (TAKO) on Saturday, October 21st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Johnson County Poor Farm (located near Chatham Oaks) for our Annual Pumpkin Carving Event. We have plenty of carving kits, paint, pumpkin patterns, and supplies. Bring your own pumpkin or carve one of ours!
Before we can have pumpkins, we need to remember that the plants’ roots need to eat first! And what they’re eating is … THE SOIL! Come and have fun exploring compost and checking out the “Worm Wagon”.
For this event, we are partnering with Grow: Johnson County, the Johnson County Historical Society, and the City of Iowa City. Sponsors include New Pioneer Co-Op and Wilson’s Orchard.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM and we will have some hot apple cider and roasted pumpkin seeds to share!
Participants should dress to get muddy. Dress in layers and be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Bring a hat, work gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant, drinking water, and any other items you may need to be comfortable in the outdoors. Participants are encouraged to bring a digital camera and/or binoculars.
Please help us reduce waste by bringing a water bottle, plates, silverware and other lunch items. This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Advance registration is requested, but not required. Questions about the event can be directed to TAKO Executive Director, Judy Joyce at (319)-358-2542 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org .
