Exhibition Opening: Street View: Downtown Iowa City, Then and Now

November 20, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Johnson County Historical Society invites you to attend the unveiling of a new photography exhibition titled “Street View: Downtown Iowa City, Then and Now”. This exhibition highlights images of the downtown area’s buildings and businesses from 1960 and 2016. The 1960s photographs were taken by an Iowa City firefighter and donated to JCHS by Rex Brandstatter. The scenes have been recreated over the past several months by local photographer, Rubin Flores. JCHS will display these street scenes along with period artifacts. The side-by- side views will encourage visitors to compare the buildings and businesses of downtown Iowa City “then and “now.”

Special thanks to our sponsors: University Camera, Zephyr Printing & Design, Herteen & Stocker Jewelers, and McDonald Optical.

The exhibition opening will begin at 3 pm, following the Irving Weber Award Ceremony. Introductory remarks by local historian Rex Brandstatter.
This event is free and open to the public.
