Explore the agricultural and rural heritage of Johnson County by visiting local breweries and barn structures!
The Johnson County Historical Society will host its annual Barn Tour Barns and Brews of Johnson County on August 12, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The bus will depart at 8:30 a.m. from the Johnson County Historical Society’s Museum, 860 Quarry Road in Coralville, Iowa. This event is sponsored by Hills Bank & Trust Company.
This year’s theme will explore breweries and barn structures of Johnson County including Big Grove Brewery, Backpocket Brewing Company, Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery, and Iowa’s largest hops farm, Buck Creek Hops. Individuals will learn about the process behind beer and spirit making while enjoying samples at each location. Participants will also learn about Johnson County’s barn architecture and brewing history from archaeologist Marlin Ingalls between each stop. The event will conclude with lunch at Backpocket Brewing Company. The half-day bus tour costs $45 for Historical Society members and $50 for non-members.
